COGNITUS pilot at Edinburgh Festivals 2018

COGNITUS technology to enable easy integration of enhanced user-generated content (UGC) in broadcast workflows is trialled at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018 and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2018.

Over 2 days (10 – 11 August), the vibrant and colouful  action in Edinburgh were captured on mobile phones by our commited ‘contributors’ and over a 1000 videos were uploaded through the COGNITUS app. All content is up-converted to ultra-high definition (UHD) using machine learning technologies in the COGNITUS back-end and more metadata added automatically to help the producers easily discover the content.

Below are some sample outputs from our COGNITUS productions.

In addition, COGNITUS provides an MPEG-DASH video server with adaptive streaming depending on the capabilities of the receiving devices or browsers and the available bandwidth. The corresponding examples are shown below. Note that this uses HEVC and AVC video encodes at different picture resolutions. Playback experience may vary depending on the device and browser being used.
