Turing codec presented at the EBU DevCon 2016

The BBC R&D’s Matteo Naccari presented the recent developments of the HEVC open source Turing codec at the EBU DevCon 2016.

DevCon is the European Broadcasting Union’s (EBU) annual conference for software developers, held in Geneva during 01-02 November. EBU is the key European alliance of public service media entities, comprising of 73 members in 56 countries. Among other activities, the EBU encourages active collaboration between its members and provides activities for free sharing of their knowledge and experience.

The event was attended by about 40 software developers from European broadcasters and their collaborators who shared their most recent development work and use of innovative software tools for broadcasting. One of the key technologies discussed this year was Docker, which is also used in the integration of modules for COGNITUS. Docker offers flexibility required for continuous integration of large software systems.

Matteo’s presentation included an overview of the main features and performance of the Turing codec. The details of the codec’s open source release were also discussed.
