BBC releases the new HEVC open source Turing codec

Last week, the BBC R&D released the new HEVC open source video coder called the Turing codec. This is the outcome of a partnership with Parabola Research and the Queen Mary University of London, aimed at developing a fast and efficient HEVC video encoder with low computational complexity. Further details of the Turing codec, including how to access the code base can be found in the project website.

The COGNITUS project will incorporate the Turing codec as a key component of its architecture, and is expected to make further developments and optimizations over this software encoder to adapt it to the COGNITUS applications.
